Catch The Sperm (all scenarios)

At the start of 2001, many Swiss Internet sites offered an enormous quantity of good material on HIV/AIDS. The problem was that the Web sites of the main Swiss non-governmental prevention organisations were suffering from a chronic lack of visitors. Given this background, the national AIDS prevention campaign (STOP AIDS) wanted to set up a portal which would offer basic information and promote other sites by referring visitors to them if they needed more in-depth information or personal advice. To familiarise people with the portal, the objective was to find an "eye-catcher" that would attract the attention of surfers. "Catch the Sperm" was launched with this aim in mind: it is a provocative electronic game with attractive graphic animations. DESCRIPTION: "Catch the sperm" can be downloaded free of charge from the portal. Aim of the game: a condom gun is used to neutralise sperm, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The game sends out a message that everyone can understand: condoms protect people against STIs. LESSONS LEARNED: The game has met with tremendous success (about 18 million people throughout the world have visited the site to download the first version). Traffic on www.stopaids.ch has been very heavy since then. Following the launch of the game, the portal has welcomed an average of 70,000 visitors per month. A significant percentage of surfers have availed themselves of the information which was provided on the site, and the numbers of Web visitors to other prevention organisations have doubled. The game has also attracted the attention of the media, providing a platform to spread the HIV prevention messages.
